Online applications, including all required documents, letters of recommendation, etc., will be accepted until Friday, Jan 12, 2024 at 4p.m. Pacific time.

To be eligible for this internship, you must (a) be an undergraduate student at a college/university not in your senior year; (b) be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident; and (c) be at least 18 years old as of the internship start date. Previous MPL summer interns are ineligible.

The following items must be uploaded to the application:
  • A current resume that includes educational background and work experience
  • A concise statement, no more than 200 words, describing your research interests, those interests you would like to pursue at MPL as well as more general career plans
  • A copy of your academic record/unofficial transcript
  • Contact information (including email address) for two current/recent professors from whom recommendation letters will be solicited. These letters will be solicited electronically and must be submitted by the professor to the secure link provided. You are responsible for ensuring that the professors are willing to provide such a letter.

Recommendation letters are a key factor in the decision process, and should document:
    (a) under what circumstances the professor has known you
    (b) Your previous accomplishments and potential for being a successful part of the internship program
    (c) An overall evaluation of your past performance relative to other students at a comparable stage in their careers.

Optionally applicants can also include a cover letter with their application.

We recommend applicants review MPL's list of research areas and corresponding faculty before applying, as you will be asked on the application to reference faculty you're interested in working with.

We also recommend that the application materials be prepared in advance and readily available when you begin the application process as the page will time out in 45 minutes. Once you have submitted your online application, you may login here to submit any changes to your application materials.
