White seabass were caught on the back side of Catalina Island in June and July of 2024, and acquired parasites while held in a large net pen. The white seabass were kept in a large aquaculture net cage being used as a temporary holding pen prior to moving fish back to the mainland. The maximum depth inside the net pen is 6.7 meters. The fish were caught via hook-and-line at varying depth, most of them in shallow waters no more than 10 meters deep.
