C9812 was originally catalogued as "Nebalia daytoni/hesleri" [sic], contained one vial of each species, and was cited in both descriptions. N. daytoni remains C9812 based on earlier date of publication; N. hessleri assigned new catalog number C15407 by C. Seid, 2024-02-14. From Vetter, 1996: "Animals were obtained during an ecological investigation of the benthic community off the coast of La Jolla. Sediment was collected in 7.62 cm diameter cores and washed through a 500 um sieve. Animals were preserved in 4% formalin in seawater, and most samples were stained with rose bengal to aid in sorting."
